About Address Verification
Address Verification Add-on

Real-time shipping address verification during the checkout process.

When shoppers enter a wrong shipping address, either if it’s a typo in the street address, bad ZIP code, or even just missing the suite number – the invalid addresses will cost your business time and money.

Issues associated to bad shipping addresses can delay the delivery of the order, generate a returned package to your business, end on the wrong address; and generate carrier imposed penalty fees that can easily add up and generate losses to your business.

This add-on provides seamless integration with the Single Page Checkout and Multi-step checkout processes, to automatically verify and standardize the shipping address provided by the shopper.

The Address Verification add-on will check the domestic destination address using the USPS address matching system. This will display the correct shipping address to the shopper during checkout, taking care of any typos and format issues according to USPS standards to avoid delivery delays. If there are multiple matches to one address - it will prompt the shopper for a selection giving the opportunity to correct the problem before the order is completed.

UPDATE: As of Jul 2020, the App now validates Address Type Residential/Commercial.

Great App
Been using this app for about 2 weeks now and works like a charm. No problems with addresses and or returns from bad addresses. Very happy with product.

It works good for the nine digit zip code correction, but the full address validation is not caught up completely with new addresses.

Not bad, but could use a little work. For starters, I wish it used the FedEx validation vs. USPS. Fedex's validation api seems to be much more robust USPS or UPS and seems to be less easily confused. Plus it will actually check the validity of the apartment/unit number. This validator will literally let you put anything on the 2nd line without checking it.. It also isn't smart enough to break the text onto 2 lines if the customer enters the unit number on the first line. It also won't capitalize addresses that are already correct. That's a bit nitpicky, but I'd prefer to have it be consistent. It also seems to have an extremely difficult time validating addresses that are in remote, sparsely populated areas. For example - areas where people have to go to the post office to get their mail because their town does not have mail delivery.

Address Verification Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Will it capitalize all addresses entered at checkout ?

Asked by: Jay (11/27/2016)
A: Yes, because this is how the addresses are stored on the USPS Database that the information is retrieved from. This serves to ensure proper recognition of the address.

Q: If an address is accurate except for caps and lack of ZIP+4, will it prompt the customer to change?

Asked by: Jake (12/15/2016)
A: Yes. This is because the database that the addresses are being pulled and compared from are written in caps. To avoid any possible confusion, the service will favor the all caps version.

Asked by: William (1/27/2017)
A: No, this app works only with United States addresses.

Q: Can you add a message that states "Your address may have been entered correctly, but USPS will change it to Caps" ?

Asked by: Mary (2/14/2017)
A: There is actually a message in place. In the case that the address is corrected, it shows the new address in caps, and it lets the customer select to continue with the address as they entered or accept the suggestion.

Q: From my experience, there are addresses that are not serviceable by the US Postal Service, such as certain addresses in the San Bernardino Mountains here in Southern California. They can not be verified either. What happens if a customer uses such an address, and the USPS system can't verify it? Will there be an error message? Can a client bypass this error message? Anything else that we need to know when this happens? Will we receive an alert stating the address was unverifiable?

Q: Does your system also tell us, the vendor, whether it's a residential or commercial zone? Some clients try to bypass FedEx Home Delivery in favor of the less expensive FedEx Ground, for example. But if it ends up being a residence, we the vendor end up shouldering the Residential cost which is almost double of what Ground is.

Asked by: Patrick from Compliance Posters of America (11/1/2019)
A: As of July 2020, The address validation will display the applicable residential/commercial rates for the shopper based on their address type.

Q: Where is the full pricing for this app? The advertised "Starts at $9.99/month" is rather meaningless.

Q: My website processes less than 100 orders per month 7 months of the year. If I start with the 100 order service, will it automatically upgrade to the next service when I get more than 100 orders in a month?
